Six rounds of FIDE-rated rapid games

at Colchester Town Hall on 16-Jul-2023

Sections and Prizes

Three sections based on the latest available ratings: U1600, U1900 and Open

 

Minimum guaranteed cash prize for each section

  • 1st: £100

  • 2nd: £60

  • 3rd: £40     

The higher of the latest ECF and FIDE Rapid ratings will be used to determine the section of a player.

Players in a lower section can play in any higher sections if they wish.

 

Registration

 

Players should be ECF members at Silver or above. Otherwise, there will be a £10 additional fee. Players without a FIDE ID code will be registered as ENG.

 

Players who hold a title (WCM-GM) are eligible to play for free.

Time control

20 minutes for each player and 5 seconds increments per move.

The default time is 10 minutes. After which, we will attempt to re-pair with another available player. The new game will be 15 minutes with 5 seconds increment per move.

Schedule

  • Round 1 - 10:30 

  • Round 2 - 11:30 

  • Round 3 - 12:30

  • Round 4 - 14:00

  • Round 5 - 15:00 

  • Round 6 - 16:00

 

Venue

The games will take place in the “Moot Hall” on the 2nd floor of the Colchester Town Hall. There will be sitting spaces in the Community Room (Ground Floor) and the Grand Jury / West Committee Room (1st Floor) of the same building. Please note that the room allocations are subject to changes which we will let you know prior to the event.

 

Colchester Castle and Castle Park are within 100 meters of the venue. If the weather permits, these are lovely outdoor spaces to enjoy the break time.   

 

Refreshments

FREE tea/coffee will be available at the venue.

The Town Hall is on the High Street, and all popular food chains are available nearby.

 

Travel

1. Car

There is limited onsite parking. Address for SatNav: High St, Colchester, CO1 1PJ and what3words location: verbs.this.costs

The Britannia Car Park is about 8-10 minutes of walk and costs only £1 on Sundays. A closer alternative is Greyfriars Hotel Car Park by Castle Park, which costs £5 for 12 hours on Sunday.

2. Trains

There are two stations in Colchester. The Colchester Town station is only 10 minutes walk away. Colchester North station is only 20 minutes walk away. Please check here for the service updates.

 

Notes

The Chief Arbiter reserves the right to merge sections due to insufficient entries in one or more sections. If merged, prizes will still be awarded to the participants of the original individual sections. In case of a tie-break, prize money will be split equally among the players with the same points.
 
The organisers accept no responsibility for any damage, theft or accident to the person or property. The Organisers and Arbiters cannot act in loco parentis for junior players.
 
Personal data is held solely for our events and to inform you of future chess events. We share some data with the English Chess Federation and FIDE for rating purposes.
